We are a local tour company that recognizes the importance of education and conservation, both for our wildlife and native cultures.

Kwetu means “our home, our pride, our heritage” in Swahili. We are local company based in Arusha, comprised almost entirely of local staff. Our goal is not only to give you an excellent wildlife tour, but to give you an opportunity to visit native cultures like the Chaga or Maasai peoples and, with our highly knowledgeable guides, we hope to give you a more complete experience of Tanzania. We feel these experiences can greatly enrich ones travels and are also an important part of raising awareness. Your support of Kwetu eco-tours will also help local schools and our native cultures, as a portion of our profits support these causes.

ABOUT US

Our Director

Dennis, the eldest of nine, was born on the slopes of Africa's highest volcanic mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. His traditional Chagga tribal name, Mřio, means "someone who will support the family," reflecting the custom that the firstborn son carries the responsibility of family care.

After completing the equivalent of high school in Tanzania, Dennis couldn't afford university and sought work to fund his education. He began as a porter and cook on Kilimanjaro with IntoAfrica, a UK-based trekking and safari company, making over 200 ascents to the summit.

In 2006, Dennis led a safari for American travelers Erna Grasz and Mark Newton, which inspired the creation of the Asante Africa Foundation to alleviate poverty and empower villagers through education. Invited to the US in 2007 to promote the foundation's cause, Dennis became a key in-country partner and advisor. With support from Asante and IntoAfrica, he pursued a degree at the College of African Wildlife Management, quickly expanding his knowledge in environmental and natural resources protection, wildlife management, and the coexistence of humans and nature.

Elected President of the Student Council in 2009-2010, Dennis represented 27 nationalities and engaged with Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and other leaders.

Dennis now serves as a Board Advisory Member for Building for Generations and Connects Autism Tanzania organizations dedicated to supporting children with autism in Tanzania. His journey highlights how village values and education have shaped him into the person he is today.
